The York High School men’s hockey team played their annual military appreciation game on Monday, Feb. 7 at Dover Ice Arena against Portland/Deering.

Traditionally, this event is an opportunity to honor all those who have served or are serving in the United States military.

York seniors, in preparation for the game, visited the New Hampshire Air National Guard where they were shown a KC-46 aerial refueling plane and learned to fold the American flag from members of the honor guard of Pease.

The Wildcats chose to honor the 13 U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty in Kabul, Afghanistan while evacuating military personnel and civilians in August.

Blonigen accepted the flag in honor of the 13 fallen soldiers. The flag will be displayed at the VFW along with a plaque with the names of fallen soldiers.
