Although cold-blooded or ectothermic reptiles like snakes and lizards have a lot in common, they have many differences, as snakes do not have eyelids, limbs, outer ears, or forelimbs. Yet both species are known to be primarily carnivorous, as snakes eat small animals, including lizards, frogs, and other reptiles.
A visitor to a South African safari park has filmed a deadly battle between a baby lizard and a sand snake.
Kristy DeLange, 49, visited the Mala Mala Game Reserve located in Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, with her family in March.
“I was sitting on the porch reading a book when I heard a noise – the next thing I saw was a reptile triangle! A yellow-bellied sand snake and a young monitor lizard were both biting each other. let go and it was sure to be a real battle to the death for these reptiles. At first we were confused as to who the real hunter was and who was being hunted. The two creatures had a good grip and the balance of power seemed to keep shifting between them, ”Kristy DeLange told Latestsightings.com.
The battle reportedly continued for two hours, and the snake eventually tightened the lizard and gripped the lizard’s snout, leaving it with no way out.
The video was posted on the Kruger Sightings YouTube channel.
