Port St. John Little League Wins District Championship in Division 9-11

BREVARD COUNTY, FL – The 2022 Little League All-Star Tournament began this weekend with games taking place across the Space Coast.

The 8-10 Softball Tournament continued at Mitchell Ellington Park with the visiting Port St. John Little Leaguers meeting Rockledge LL. Rockledge’s Harmony Johnson and Taylor Henderson each scored twice, accounting for 4 of their team’s 6 points.
However, Port St. John had several points scored by Sophie Robison (2), KellyBelle Bono (3), Rya Parsons (3), Ella St. Germain (3), Emma Herold (3), Tinsley Mahoney (4), Mya Ulmer (4) and Maddy Gee (4). Tinsley Mahoney and Mya Ulmer combined on the mound for Port St. John’s 27-6 victory in 4 innings.
Meanwhile, at Cocoa’s Stradley Park, the 9-11 baseball split ended with Merritt Island (visitors) meeting Mims and Cocoa (visitors) against Port St. John.
On the No. 1 field, Merritt Island’s Adrian Sherwood netted a brace and scored twice while Brennan Webb added two more runs and Brent Hill hit a home run before Mother Nature changed her plans and let it go a ton of rain on the complex and lightning in the 4th inning.
Mims’ John Sandstrom hit a double, while Jackson Hubinger scored a double and a run, and Tyler Minch hit a triple and scored twice. The match was halted in the 4th with Merritt Island leading 9-7.
On the No. 2 court, Travis Taylor of Port St. John’s hit a brace and scored while Bryce Crocker added 2 more runs.
Cocoa’s Jaxon McQueen doubled and scored, but Port St. John was leading 6-3 when rain and lightning halted play late in the 4th inning.
Due to the team’s current win/loss records, these matches have no bearing on the standings and will not be completed.
Port St. John’s Little League won the District Championship in Baseball’s Division 9-11 and will represent Florida’s District 22 in the Division 3 Tournament on July 9 in St. Augustine.
