Original Call of Duty battle royale war zone took the gaming world by storm in 2020, dominating headlines and player interest ever since. With its huge popularity, it certainly made sense that Activision would eventually give the green light Warzone 2.

That time has now come⁠—Call of Duty the bosses demanded a war zone sequel, and development finally came to life at Infinity Ward headquarters.

News from the war zone the tracking was first reported by Bloomberg on January 24 and soon confirmed by the developers at Infinity Ward via CharlieIntel. At the time, war zone the developers said they were “embarrassed” by the state of the battle royale right now and pledged to do war zone 2 a much greater experience.

Activision has yet to approve an official war zone 2 release date, but expect a 2023 launch for the Call of Duty the long-awaited sequel to Battle Royale. Franchise publishers have confirmed that the game “will come with modern warfare 2.”

Whether this means the two Infinity Ward games will release at the same time or be spaced apart is unconfirmed⁠ – we’ll let you know as soon as we know more.

One of the main features of the delivery of any sequel is the upgrade of gameplay and features from the original title, and war zone 2 shouldn’t be any different. Infinity Ward has the option to rebuild the battle royale engine from scratch here, which should alleviate many bugs and errors in the current version.

Insiders have reported there will be “no past weapon integrations” either, meaning the current arsenal of Modern Warfare 2019, Black Ops Cold War, Avant-gardeand modern warfare 2 (en route) will not be available.

The new game will be “built from the ground up” with a “new play space and sandbox mode”, as well as its own selection of classic games Call of Duty weapons.

One thing we already know about the project war zone the sequel is that it will be built around modern warfare 2. This means that many of its launch POIs will be based on old modern warfare cards⁠—think Blackout Black Ops 4 theme in 2018. This could include Favela, Highrise, Terminal and much more.

Running Cod battle royale maps like Verdansk and Caldera are likely to take a back seat before the sequel as well. Expect a full new map for war zone 2.
