PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG / WECP) – Have you ever heard the saying, All is fair in Nerf Love and War?
Well, that was the case at Frank Nelson Park on Saturday. Where the kids were able to hang out and enjoy the event hosted by Panama City’s Quality of Life.
We wanted to have a safe and fun family event here at Frank Nelson. We have partnered with our local or a Nerf enthusiast and other local community groups to organize this event, ”said Sean DePalma, Panama City Director of Quality of Life.
There were over forty children present who came to participate in the activities.
“As you can see, it’s a great participation. Tons of kids brought their own Nerf guns and toys and we provided some as well. We brought over a thousand tricks that we brought, Nerf with them to play today, ”DePalma said.
A parent explained what it meant to have an event like this in the community for his son and two of his friends.
“That’s it for him. Otherwise, they are sitting at home, playing video games, they can go out and interact with other children. Play, I’ve never seen him sweat so much in my life. He’s having a good time, I’m having a good time, ”said Traci Reed, a parent.
First Presbyterian Panama City and Panama City Nerf partnered with Quality of Life to organize the event.
“I hope there will be more events in the future and that we can bring the community together. I think that’s what Bay County needs more community events like this. Especially for children, ”said Sylvia Mack, co-owner of Panama City Nerf.
With the recent juvenile crimes unfolding in the area, DePalma says that with luck, with activities like this, children may find another outlet.
“All of our programs try to focus on rebuilding the family, also providing a platform for the family to come together and take advantage of each other and the community to come together,” DePalma said.
DePalma adds that the department is trying to create spaces and activities that allow a platform to provide opportunities for children, rather than not having them and sending them down a path that parents don’t want them to. descend.
He also adds that the department will be hosting tennis camps at frank nelson and even plans to host a game show night later in the week at Oakland Terrace.
