Minecraft will ban NFTs on game servers

Mojang has made statements regarding their feelings about Minecraft NFTs on game servers, stating that they don’t believe the NFT market is something they want to implement in their game. They state that NFTs “create patterns of scarcity and exclusion” and want their players feel secure when using their servers.

Although their guidelines and policies allow server owners to charge other players for access, they mention that in order to maintain both a safe space and inclusive play for their players, they will not allow the integration of NFTs into their client. They also go on to state that they do not authorize anyone to use in-game content such as worlds, skins, or anything for that matter to be used by blockchain technologies. The reasons for their choice are as follows.

They have noticed that some of their skin packs and world files have been used by other companies as a way to create collectibles. Minecraft NFT. They state that the exclusivity of these collectibles goes directly against their values, as they pride themselves on a happy and stimulating gaming environment where everyone is welcome. They also worry a lot about profits, as they want the focus to be on their game and not qualifying to buy digital assets for others to earn income.

They also worry about the security of these volatile NFTs and those selling them. They fear that these third-party sellers are unreliable and could cost players their well-deserved money for little return, which to Mojang seems unfair. Some of these third-party NFT owners may be at the mercy of an asset manager, and if that manager disappears without notice, everyone involved in that NFT may suffer the consequences.

Finally, they fear fraud. Many of these digital assets have been sold to unsuspecting buyers at extremely high prices with the promise of a huge profit, which 99.9% of the time is not the truth. Mojang is concerned that their community will fall victim to these schemes, and they don’t want to be involved in things like this.

They finally declare,

“So to make sure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be used to create NFTs associated with any game content, including worlds, skins, personality items, or other mods.”
